Today as I pulled out my overly heavy laptop I started thinking about whether the OLPC machine could work well for digital nomads. Many of the characteristics that make it ideal for children in third world countries make it ideal for digital nomads who may also be in those countries...
Low power usage, rugged, likely has great wifi reception, mesh network system could help herds of users, few moving parts, reasonably affordable ($400 if you are in the US or Canada, $200 in general but only available in bulk).
Full specs of the machine show that with SD/MMC and USB ports it should be pretty expandable.
I'm starting to think that perhaps it is only suitable for someone who is traveling but who is not a real "digital" nomad. Thoughts? Is there any decent and cheap machine or do we all just have to go for the expensive lightweight machines?
