With the recent news that cell phone manufacturers will standardize on the micro-usb charger I'm elated. When looking at the contents of my gadget bag it's only too obvious that chargers take up most of the space.
Today as I pulled out my overly heavy laptop I started thinking about whether the OLPC machine could work well for digital nomads. Many of the characteristics that make it ideal for children in third world countries make it ideal for digital nomads who may also be in those countries...
Low power usage, rugged, likely has great wifi reception, mesh network system could help herds of users, few moving parts, reasonably affordable ($400 if you are in the US or Canada, $200 in general but only available in bulk).
I didn't understand it until I saw one. In my home and in offices I've always opted for the bigger bulkier WiFi routers - the Linksys WRT54G for example. But when I saw someone slide an Airport Express out of their luggage at a hotel, plug it in, quickly configure it, and share wifi with the room I was simply amazed. I would never imagine doing that with a WRT54G simply because of the bulk and antennas.
